A Trip to Pacific Palisades
Whenever you're in the need to channel your inner zen and escape the City of Angels take a trip to the Self Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine Temple & Garden tucked away on the winding roads of Sunset Blvd. in Pacific Palisades. After reading about this place a few months ago I finally grabbed my camera and went to check it out.
Upon entering the gardens there is a gift shop on the left and pamphlets on the right to learn about its history. The small lake is beautifully designed with colorful flowers, various kinds of plants, and palm trees. Be sure to keep a lookout for tiny walkways leading to benches for you to enjoy the view, listen to the sounds of the waterfalls, meditate, or hang out with a friend. There's even a memorial dedicated to Gandhi where some of his ashes are placed. You'll also see a few swans, ducks, and turtles cruising around the lake as well as butterflies and hummingbirds flying around. I'm not sure how crowded it gets on the weekend but I went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was pretty chill, just people strolling and enjoying the moment. I saw a few kids playing around and a guy trying to take a selfie with ducks in the background, haha.
Don't worry about getting here without a car. I was able to catch the Expo line from Metro Center to Culver City and from there I took the 534 to PCH & Sunset then it's about a five minute walk to the entrance or if you're up for a really long ride you can take the 2 or the 302 from the Sunset/Vermont Red Line Station. Yeah it takes a while to get there but it's worth it. Where will my next excursion be? I don't know, but I'll be sure to take photos. -N.
